Research

The primary mission and goal of Research Computing is to support research computing activities on campus that include but are not limited to

  • Traditional high-performance computing (HPC), which is computing that may involve parallel programming using MPI (message passing interface), multiple threads, or GPUs (graphics processing units)
  • High-throughput computing (HTC), which consists of running large numbers of independent computing tasks where each task performs a similar computation on a different set of data
  • Analysis and manipulation of multi-terabyte data sets now referred to by some funding agencies as “BIGDATA

We provide as much information as possible on these web pages, but by the very nature of research, not all use cases can be anticipated. Please contact us with any questions or project proposals. We are here to help you succeed.

Generating grant proposals is an important and often onerous task. Under Proposal Support, we provide detailed instructions on creating competitive proposals that leverage Research Computing resources.

Our Publications section tracks the scholarly work produced by our users and is an important measure of our success. In a very strong sense, the more publications produced using Research Computing resources, the more we have contributed to the fundamental mission of the University. If your work using Research Computing resources resulted in a publication, invited talk, or conference proceeding, please take the time to tell us about it via our submission form.
