Qumulo Storage for Home Areas

Qumulo storage system installed in the Research Computing Center’s data hall

UF Research Computing has recently taken delivery of a new Qumulo storage system to replace the aging Nexenta system that is currently being used.

This file system will be used to house files and directories in user’s home areas, as well as hold the applications directory. Files will be mounted using the NFS file system.

The new system offers a variety of options that were missing in the current Nexenta system, including the ability to easily scale-out the system in the case of needing more space for user files.

UF Research Computing staff will be working with the system for a short period to ensure that all of the hardware is working properly, then will begin the preliminary stages of file migration for users. Full migration of all users to the new system is estimated to be complete by the beginning of the summer term.
