Top500_resize

The TOP500 list is a semiannual ranking of the world’s most powerful computer systems. Rankings are determined by the High-Performance LINPACK (HPL) benchmark which solves a dense system of linear equations using double-precision floating-point arithmetic. HiPerGator 2.0’s computation rate of 738 teraflops was obtained using 29,184 Intel E5-2698 v3 cores in 912 Dell SOS6320 servers connected by a Mellanox InfiniBand fabric. Although the system includes 32 additional servers with NVIDIA K80 and Intel Xeon Phi accelerators, they were not used in the benchmark.

Overall, HiPerGator 2.0 ranks:

  • #1 among supercomputers funded and operated by universities in the South
  • #2 among supercomputers funded and operated by public universities in the United States
  • #3 among supercomputers funded and operated by public or private universities in the United States
  • #114 among supercomputers worldwide
